The End is the Beginning

my installation at the SIM Big Show

Title "The End is the Beggining"

This piece came about right after the Tango de Los Muertos festival ended. I had just finished working on the decor and the cake for the festival, took many amazing workshops, and danced for 4 nights in a row! it was such an amazing time, i didnt know what to do with myself when it was over. Returning to real life? what? after a lot of reflection i realized that this experience had changed me in a very profound way and that even though it was the end, it was the beginning of something else.. i could feel that it had sparked a new way of thinking about art and life. The realization came about during the creation of this new piece. A series of paintings (gouche, acrylic, pen, ink, and colored pencil on paper) and an installation piece (roses, ash, and wood).

on that note.. henna cakes!

henna cakes.. these were some of my earliest cakes. the idea of doing cakes started with henna tattoos. Applying henna paste from a cone is practically the same thing as applying chocolate or ganash or piping frosting onto a cake. so here are the cakes that were inspired by my henna designs.

more henna tattoos and street fairs!

couple more tattoos, and my booth at the allston village street fair.

henna tattoos!

okay i thought i'd change it up a bit. lets take a cake break. here are my latest henna tattoos. : )

tango de los muertos cake - in operation

here are the frosting photos of the tango de los muertos cake. look at those colors! EEEEK!

tango de los muertos cake

This was the most exciting cake i got to work on! It was for a tango festival called Tango de Los Muertos, here in boston. It was the last one : ( hence the cake.. and the R.I.P. - the imagery for the tango fest is very halloween, very dia de los muertos.. so i used that all over the cake. It makes more sense if you check out their website www.tangodelosmuertos.com but basically that sort of spanish baroque latin american bright colors and lots of flowers thing going on. the photos with the water mark are by Sorin Varzaru. The other is by Marty Katz. And the ones of me frosting are photos that my brother took at the bakery. : )

neo-classical asian fusion cakes

my latest designs.. as my dad put it, they are "neo-classical asian fusion style" cakes. They're also inspired by my latest paintings which ill be posting soon since im planning to spend all monday morning photographing my non-cake artwork! im also super excited cuz just learned how to make frosting roses!!!
